Terms of Use

Effective October 11, 2026

Herald was previously called Tidings. We renamed the app on October 11, 2026. These terms cover the app under either name, and an existing Tidings Pro subscription continues as Herald Pro.

Herald (the "app") is made by Desert Gate Holdings ("we", "us", "our"), an Arizona business. Your use of the app is governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Apple EULA"), together with these terms. By downloading or using the app, you agree to both. If these terms and the Apple EULA conflict, the Apple EULA controls to the extent of the conflict.

What Herald is

Herald is an email app for iPhone. It connects directly to the email accounts you add and shows your mail as chats. Your mail is held by your mail providers and on your iPhone; we do not operate servers that store or relay it. Our Privacy Policy explains how your information is handled.

You are responsible for the email accounts you add, for keeping your iPhone and its passcode secure, and for following your mail providers' terms. Herald depends on services run by your mail providers and by Apple. If a provider changes or limits how apps can connect, some features may stop working for that provider, and we can't guarantee it will be possible to restore them.

Free version and Herald Pro

The free version of Herald includes every feature for one inbox. Herald Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription that lets you use up to 12 inboxes.

  • Plans and price. Herald Pro is $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year in the United States. Prices in other countries are set in local currency. The App Store shows you the price before you buy.
  • Free trial. Each plan includes a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers. If you don't cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription starts and you are charged automatically. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
  • Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase or, with a free trial, when the trial ends.
  • Auto-renewal. Your subscription renews automatically for the same period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • Managing and canceling. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in iPhone Settings: tap your name, then Subscriptions. Canceling stops future renewals; you keep Herald Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.
  • Restoring. To restore a subscription on a new or reset iPhone, use Restore Purchases in Me > Plan.
  • Refunds. Purchases are handled by Apple, and refund requests are decided by Apple under its policies. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • Price changes. We may change subscription prices. Apple will notify you of price changes as its rules require, and where required, ask for your consent before a higher price applies.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Herald to send spam or unsolicited bulk email, to break the law, to harass anyone, to infringe anyone's rights, or to access email accounts you aren't authorized to use. You agree not to copy, modify, reverse engineer or redistribute the app except as the Apple EULA or applicable law allows.

Your email belongs to you

We claim no rights in your email or anything else you handle in the app. We don't receive it, and we have no ability to read, recover or restore it.

Other companies' services

Herald works with services from other companies, including your mail providers, Apple, Microsoft, Google, DuckDuckGo and Cloudflare, as described in the Privacy Policy. Their own terms and policies apply to your use of their services, and we are not responsible for them.

Disclaimer

To the fullest extent the law allows, the app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. In particular, we don't promise that:

  • every email will be sent, received, grouped or displayed correctly;
  • notifications will arrive at any particular time (iOS decides how often the app can check for mail);
  • spam reporting or blocking will catch every unwanted message; or
  • the app will be uninterrupted or free of errors.

Your mail providers keep the authoritative copy of your email. Keep anything important there, and don't rely on Herald as your only record of it.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Desert Gate Holdings and its owners, employees and contractors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, messages, profits, revenue or goodwill, arising out of or related to the app or these terms, even if we were told such damages were possible.

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim arising out of or related to the app or these terms is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Herald Pro in the 12 months before the claim arose, or US$50.

Some places don't allow certain warranties to be excluded or liability to be limited, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.

Indemnity

To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover Desert Gate Holdings' reasonable losses and costs arising from claims by others that result from your misuse of the app or your breach of these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Maricopa County, Arizona, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction, except where the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts.

Changes and ending

We may update these terms. We will post the new version here with a new effective date, and for significant changes we will also tell you in the app. If you keep using the app after a change takes effect, the new terms apply. You can stop using Herald at any time by deleting it and canceling any subscription. We may change or discontinue the app, in which case your rights to any refund are handled by Apple under its policies.
